The Sideways Heart

Some things would be easier upside down
And maybe I would be more polite
Or understanding
Less open
More upstanding
And then maybe you would see me for who I am
And not just how I look
Or what I like
Or who I am
Or why I like you...
But then if things were upside down
And we became something we're not
How would we realize that we meant to open our hearts?
How hard it is to say "I love you"
When we keep our emotions selfishly locked away
So we won't get hurt.
If this is the case, then I am an egotistic coward.
So maybe instead of turning our hearts upside down
You can just come over Friday night
And we can stand on our heads
And pretend we're just friends.
